Corporate Sector - The Next BIG Thing
If anyone is wondering what "the next big thing" to impact the corporate sector is likely to be in coming years, I'll make a bold prediction that the rise of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) will be right up there. More specifically, the development of technology to achieve the best possible outcomes for businesses, their staff and aligned causes.
Many organisations already do a fantastic job when it comes to contributing financially to a number of causes, with some even allowing staff to give their time to said causes too.
However, the degree of sophistication in terms of platforms and technology in this space which produce winning outcomes for businesses, their staff, customers and addressable causes has much to play out.
We're already seeing it, but certainly, over the next twenty years, there's going to be a very perceptible shift in workplace values given the millions of young people entering the workforce having grown up on images of plastic filled oceans, and constant reminders of climate change and its calamitous effects on the planet.
This new generation of workers is far more likely to be thinking about how the product of their labour impacts their community or the world as a whole beyond just their employer's bottom line.
I genuinely believe both private and public sectors have a massive opportunity to address the aforementioned issues (and many more) and in so doing, imbue their young workers with a real sense of purpose well beyond that which they derive from their day-to-day work functions.
Also indicated in the research report is the obvious benefit that flows through to attracting the best talent when organisations have a capacity to sell more than just great conditions and career progression to prospective employees.
The flip side (and additional benefit) to this, of course, is that consumers are increasingly willing to spend their dollars on the products and services of organisations who take a serious and measured approach to address issues they are also concerned about.
